Speech & Language Assessments

At Powerful Voices, we believe every young person deserves to be heard. No matter who requests the assessment or how complex the needs, our goal is to provide the highest level of support and advocacy for the individual needing support.

What sets us apart is our flexibility. We meet young people where they are, whether that’s at home, school, online, or even alternative settings like a farm. We know that understanding a young person’s needs requires seeing them in environments where they feel most comfortable.

We take a holistic, needs led approach because each young person is unique. Gathering insights from their full support network to build a clear, accurate picture. This helps us create a meaningful diagnosis and establish tailored, measurable goals framework that set each young person up for success.

While our assessments are adapted depending on whether they’re requested by caregivers, schools, or legal professionals, our commitment to personalised, thorough care remains the same.

Understanding the Process

Our approach is fully bespoke to each young person. However, we understand that seeking an assessment can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time accessing support.

To help, we’ve outlined our processes based on your support pathway. We have two typical processes. The first is for whether you are a caregiver, part of an educational setting, or have found us through a charity partner.

The second is for those with needs from a medico legal standpoint. The main difference in the two approaches are that the latter requires some additional steps in order to produce structured documentation that is suitable for court or tribunal proceedings.

For Caregivers, Education Settings & Charity Partners:

Whilst there are variations due to individual needs, this is a typical process that we would follow when working with your young person:

We begin our assessment by observing the young person in the environment that best suits them, such as their home, education setting, or online.

We take a holistic approach, collaborating with the young person’s support network to provide a thoughtful diagnosis and tailored plan to meet their needs.

Once we have gathered sufficient information on the young person, we review to evaluate and form a diagnosis or a summary of needs.

The final stage involves issuing our report, which includes a full identification of needs and a comprehensive baseline of the provision required to support the identified needs.

For Medico Legal

The process for medico legal is far more comprehensive, so there are some additional steps we would typically follow.

We work closely with each setting to meet the identified needs and provide the right support.

Where needed, we also coordinate with other services to ensure a unified approach to the young person’s care.

The final stage involves issuing a detailed report that meets all legal framework requirements, including the diagnosis, supporting evidence, and a baseline outlining current support gaps, and required provisions.
