About Powerful Voices

Powerful Voices Ltd was founded in 2018 with one clear purpose:

To support and advocate for young people on their journey to finding their voice

We believe Everyone's Voice deserves to be Heard

After years working in the NHS and private sector, we saw just how many young people with complex needs were slipping through the cracks. Often because access to speech and language therapy was limited, inconsistent, wasn’t tailored to their individual needs or stopped altogether once they turned twenty five. We watched the fight needed every step of the way just to get the support their young person needed and deserved.

We knew something had to change. So we created Powerful Voices to help fill those gaps with care, compassion, expertise, and a completely needs led approach that puts the individual first, always. That’s why we work not just for you, but with you – advocating fiercely for you and your young person above all else.

Wherever appropriate, we include your young person in shaping their care to ensure their voice is at the centre of every decision, plan, and action. And we continue to work with your young person beyond twenty five, to ensure a smooth transition and continuation of care into adulthood.

We offer a variety of speech and language services to help support young people and their entire network. Our services are led by our exceptional team, who have a broad range of expertise and experience in supporting young people with complex needs.

What type of Complex Needs do we Support?

Our specialist team works with young people who have a wide range of needs, making sure each young person is matched with a therapist who really understands their individual challenges and strengths.

Some of the complex needs we support are:

Down’s syndrome

Trauma and attachment difficulties

Sensory processing disorders

Cerebral palsy

Profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD)

Communication difficulties

Visual and auditory impairments

Other more complex medical conditions

Our Unique Approach

We are completely needs led because we believe young people are individuals and as such their care should be too.

From the very first meeting, everything moves at your young person’s pace, in a space that feels right for them, with a therapist most suited to their needs. We support them through the onboarding process, as we appreciate that sometimes change and new people can be disconcerting for them, and post twenty five to ensure a thorough transition out of our care.

Practically, that means we meet the young person where they are. Somewhere that suits them, and not us. That may be at home, at school, or wherever they feel most comfortable. This helps the young person to relax, and gives us the best opportunity to really get to know them.

We learn from everyone involved in their day-to-day world. We believe this helps us to really understand everything about the individual, their needs, and importantly it helps us to be able to accurately diagnose.

The diagnosis is just the first step, what happens after is the crucial part. By taking a holistic approach, we identify the potential gaps for the young person within their support network. We build relationships, which helps us to support in filling those gaps. This collaborative and considered approach helps us to make sure your young person gets the well rounded support they need to help them find their voice.

Learning without Limits

We believe young people with complex needs deserve the same opportunities as everyone else in reaching their full potential.

We provide young people with the skills, strategies and support to enable them to access more formal qualifications or further education, should they wish, by helping them to be in a position to do so.
